The
Wheelchair Chef

My mission in life

I want to break down the traditional barriers that people see when they come across a person in a wheelchair and make people re-think any beliefs they have and replace them with a more positive look, by showing them what a person in a wheelchair can do.  I want to show that wheelchair users can do ‘normal’ things such as cooking and that this can be done by adapting improvising and overcoming any challenges placed in front of us!

How I ended up here!

I became wheelchair bound following an admission to hospital with paralysis in my right foot.  Following three weeks stay and many tests the neurologist arranged some specialist tests.  These showed that i had a condition called FND.  Despite having this condition i made a decision to fight as hard as i could to improve my life.

The diagnosis of FND, or Functional Neurological Disorder, simply put is involuntary neurological symptoms.  It affects people in many ways.  For me i have paralysis in both feet, leg and arm spasms to name a few, there are many more that i have.

It has taken a while to get to the position i am now in where i have the YouTube channel, instagram etc.  However, i made an active decision that i want to show that people in wheelchairs can live normal lives and cook high quality food, and so my mind was made up and ‘The Wheelchair Chef’ was born!

Did you know?

That there are 1.2 million wheelchair users in the UK - that’s 1.8%
